The John C. Butler-class of escort destroyers were 83 ships produced for the United States Navy during World War II. Known for their Westinghouse geared turbine drive, these ships gained fame at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, where several ships of the class participated and earned commendations. Only three of the class were lost during the war, and the others were retired.
