Canada did not enter the war until seven days later after the German invasion of the country of Poland. Once France and Great Britain declared war on Germany, the Parliament of Canada did as well. The military might of Canada fought mostly in northern Europe, Italy, and the North Atlantic.
Canada's industrial might resulted in the production of significant supplies of military equipment, especially large numbers of British aircraft. A large number of these served with units of the USAAC. Canada lost 42,000 men in the war. In the Normandy landings, Canadian forces were the first to secure a beachhead. They fought at Ortona, one of the bloodiest battles of the entire Italian campaign. They were the most common soldiers fighting in Holland and battled at Falaise road. They were prepared to send thousands of troops to the Pacific theatre, but the war ended before they did. Canada contributed greatly to the end of World War II.
