The USS Cabot (CVL-28) was an Independence class aircraft carrier built for the US Navy. It was the second ship to carry the name Cabot, and was initially commissioned in 1943 and served the US Navy until 1947. The USS Cabot, like other aircraft carriers, mainly participated in the Pacific Theater, during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, the Battle of Iwo Jima, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and other major naval actions.[1]

The USS Cabot was originally laid down in June, 1942 as the Cleveland class light cruiserWilmington (CL-79), but was reordered and coverted into an aircraft carrier. It received the designation CVL-28, and was renamed Cabot.[2]
