Neville Chamberlain was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 1937 to May 1940. He was the immediate predecessor in office of Winston Churchill. For a time, Churchill served in Chamberlain's government, as head of the Admiralty. However, when France was invaded, Parliament voted to direct Chamberlain to step down in order to enable Churchill to take office.
