The Pensacola-class cruisers were two heavy cruisers produced bu the United States Navy during the interwar period after World War I. Adhering to the limitations of the Washington Naval Treaty, this class of cruisers had relatively thin armor, which did not protect her vital areas well in combat. Built as "treaty cruisers", the two ships served in World War II, in the Pacific Theater. Both ships were used post-war as test vessels for Operation Crossroads, the atomic bomb experiments at Bikini Atoll.
