A color sketch of USS Montana (BB-67).

USS Montana (BB-67) was planned to be the lead ship of the Montana-class battleships. She was the third ship to be named in honor of the 41st state, and was assigned to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Both the earlier battleship, BB-51, and BB-67 were cancelled, so USS Montana is the only one of the United States never to have had a battleship with a "BB" hull classification completed in it's honor.
